About SMC Real Estate

SMC came to be because of the entrepreneurial leadership of Susan Cusack’s father, William Cusack. At the young age of fifteen, William Cusack, a real estate broker, financial adviser and developer, started Susan working in his Company as one of his secretaries. She was under his tutelage throughout her life and was supported in getting a real estate sales license at the age of 21.

 About Susan Cusack (Owner)

When Susan started out, one had to be a “salesperson” for at least three years before you could sit for the “Broker” exam and open your own office. Susan took that broker exam as soon as the three-year sales period ended and at that time, she was the youngest woman real estate Broker in the State of Oregon. She opened her own firm the same month in which she received her Broker’s license, and the rest as they say, is history.

Susan lived in Eugene, Oregon and operated her sole proprietor real estate brokerage there from 1978 to 2006. In October, 2006 Susan moved to Vancouver, WA and remained licensed as a real estate broker only in the State of Oregon. In 2013, Susan became licensed in Washington State and she remains a dual-licensed Principal Broker in the State of Oregon and Washington to this date.

For the furtherance of her business skills and knowledge, in 1990 Susan returned to the University of Oregon and completed a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business with a double minor in Accounting and Finance. She also completed the Initial Administrative Licensure (IAL) coursework at George Fox University. Susan also passed the State of Oregon Superintendent’s exam while at George Fox University.

Susan has a deep passion for the education of children and has been very involved in preschool and elementary-level education for the past seventeen years in Public, Private, Public Charter and Montessori schools in Oregon and Washington. It will most likely be a life-long participation for her.  To fulfill an item on her “bucket list,” and to further her knowledge of the value of AMI Montessori Preschool education, in 2012 Susan took a year off from work and completed the very grueling AMI Montessori Primary Teaching Diploma program and a Masters in Education. She completed both in 1 year!

Susan is married to the love of her life, Clay, and has one child, a 26 year old daughter. An interesting life fact about Susan—she is a triplet!  All 3 girls. All 3 fraternal. Her sisters live in Oregon and Washington. Please ask her about the fantastic story of their birth—their mother was an amazing woman!
